One of the first settlers in the Boston area, whence he came in 1624 as part of Sir Fernando Gorges's effort to establih a settlement. he took up residence on Noddle's island in Boston Harbor. Following arrival of the Puritans in 1630, he remained an important force for commerce but his Anglicanism kept him from political influence. Developed commercial links between New England and Virginia in the 1630s.

Englishman who came to new England in 1624; active in export trade in 1640s and opening of trade routes to Southern Europe and West Indies. returned to England in 1650 and back to Massachusetts in 1664 as a royal commissioner

Fell out with Puritan authorities in late 1640s and returned to England. Back in NYC after 1669.
