Admiral Dewey destroys Spanish Pacific fleet in Manila Bay

Admiral George Dewey, aboard the USS Olympia , easily destroys Spanish Pacific fleet in Manila harbor. Upon entering, Dewey ordered, "You may fire when ready, Gridley."
Dewey's fleet consisted of 4 steel-hulled cruisers, 2 gunboats, a revenue cutter and 2 supply ships. Spanish fleet consisted of 7 unarmored wooden ships with 37 guns and inadequate coastal gun suport. Spanish casualties - 371; casualties - 9
